This week is Spring Break~~~~~~ Yeah~~~~~
We do have some lovely days around the high 60s to 70s. Sadly, we go back down to the low 30s at night. But it is starting of Spring. I predict to see more nice days and nights.
I went to the Gardening Center. Sadly, the couples nights before were freezing nights, so there were no flowers nor plants, except some pine. However, I did get my hands on a few Hellebore. They are Spring Frost Resistance. Thus, cold nights are okay for them.
Hellebore is filled with nectar. Look at the flowers! When I was at the Gardening Center, there were tons of bees dancing around them. I had to be very careful. So, by having them in my garden, I shall see more bees and butterflies.
Next week, I will see what flowers and plants they have. Hopefully, I can start planting some bee-friendly flowers. 🙂 They like shade. The area I plant them will have shade when the Mulberry starts to grow. Yes, it is underneath the Mulberry tree. We should see some leaves soon????
Well, it is not entirely bad week. Look, the purple Dead Nettles are starting again! They are everywhere. It has two-lipped tubular flowers. The nectar is attractive to bumble bees and honey bees. I know! Because I have seen butterflies and bees dancing among those tiny flowers. Well, I hope that the bumblebees are coming back soon.
All these wild flowers are beneficial to our bees. They are filled with nectar sources. More importantly, clovers convert nitrogen from the atmosphere and transfer it into the soil. Healthy plants require nitrogen to grow. The more clovers around the area, the less synthetic fertilizer you will need. It means = saves time, effort, and money. 🙂
More exciting news is that the wild Blackberry is coming too. Look at the buds!
I did prune the old brushes. Leaving the strong ones out and that should help to produce more fruits this season.
Another news, the Mourning Doves are back. I believe that they are a pair. I will update my bird lists. 🙂
This is it for this week. I have been working on my framework with more practical tools at each stage. I should create a post just for that and everyone who is interested can download the worksheets and start creating his or her own backyard gardens with our local wild animals. 🙂
